About the club

Who we are

Grafham Climbing Club is a friendly and inclusive climbing club, welcoming climbers of all ages and abilities across Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire.

We aim to provide our members with a safe, friendly and sociable environment in which to learn, develop and progress climbing skills both indoors and out.

We are an independent club with BMC affiliation and exist with the kind support of the Grafham Water Centre. Although we don't provide formal instruction or specific climbing courses, our members learn and develop their skills through climbing with other experienced members. For formal courses including beginners courses we recommend contacting the Grafham Water Centre

Where we meet and opening times

We meet weekly on Wednesday nights between 7 and 9:30pm at the Grafham Water Centre climbing wall in Perry near Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire.

What we do

Although we meet weekly at the climbing wall we also make trips to other nearby walls and outdoor venues for bouldering, sport and trad climbing.

During the sunnier months of the year we meet at various crags in the Peak District, Lake District, North Wales, the South Coast and beyond.

We're also a sociable bunch, meeting up for climbing film nights, pub nights and the occasional BBQ.

How to join

We welcome new members throughout the year from all ages and abilities. The best way to see if membership is for you is to join us on a club night and see how it works. We offer prospective members a 2 week trial before requiring you to become a member. Prior to joining the club you will be asked to complete a membership form confirming you are able to put on a harness properly, tie into a rope with a suitable climbing knot and belay another climber safely.

If you are completely new to climbing and would benefit from a beginners course, then the Grafham Water Center runs a number of introduction to climbing courses throughout the year which we highly recommend.

Membership of the Club is only open to individuals who recognise that climbing and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Members shall be aware of and accept these risks and agree to be responsible for their own actions and involvement.
